Independent Living Program & Senior Care
The Independent Living Program is designed for healthy seniors of moderate means with sufficient assets and income to live independently for as long as possible. The ILP program also provides its members the assurance that if unforeseen circumstances prevail in the years to come, they will be cared for in the skilled Senior Care facility. It is not a program of “assisted living” for those who seek day-to-day routine supportive services and care, or for those who are dependent upon others for such care.
The minimum age is 62 for a single person. In the case of a married couple, one spouse must be at least 62 and the other must be at least 60. There is no upper age limit. The capacity of the individual(s) to live and function independently is, however, a factor of admission.
-
All services and facilities are available to every ILP resident equally without regard to race, color or national origin.
-
There are no denominational restrictions for the ILP. The primary advantage of the Senior Care ILP program is its coupling with priority access to high quality health care. The Independent Living Agreement states: “should the resident require and desire admission to the main facility, admission shall be given to the resident subject only to the availability of space in the main facility.
-
No meals are mandated by the program. Each unit has a fully equipped kitchen so that residents can prepare their own meals. However, the Cafe in the main facility is available should residents desire to purchase breakfast, lunch or dinner.
-
Several shopping centers are located close to the Home. They feature supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants and many other retail establishments. For those ILP residents who do not drive, the NLHV bus provides opportunities for weekly shopping trips. It should be noted that public transportation directly to or a comfortable walking distance to NLHV is not available.
-
General medical care, other than admission to the main facility, is also available in the Independent Living Center. The ILP resident can arrange for medical care with one of the Home’s doctors. Daily nursing care is not permitted in the ILP unit. However, it is available at the main Home on a priority admission basis. The Home is a Medicare provider for those who qualify.
-
We encourage you to visit the National Lutheran Home & Village, discuss the ILP program and tour a unit. Prior to any commitment, there will be ample opportunity to meet with the representatives of NLHV and to discuss all aspects of the program.
