Moments of Delight is our employee recognition program. Residents and family members can submit Moments of Delight form to acknowledge staff members who have created a moment of delight for them. Defining the moment is up to our residents and family members...it could be a concern or problem that a staff member took care of in a way that delighted; an interaction that created a smile or conveyed respect and compassion; or a special request that was fulfilled in a creative way. We want to recognize staff who go beyond their expected job performance and we listen to our residents and family members. In the 2009 Maryland Nursing Facility Family Survey, 98 percent of family members would recommend our services to others.

"I am constantly amazed at the greeting I receive each time I enter the Home. A. and J. sparkle and smile and receive me as if they were just waiting for me to come. They set the tone for the day and make my day." -- B.M.

"L. is so cheerful and helpful, goes the extra mile for me. It is a joy to come to the bank or for stamps." -- B.M.

"Mrs. W. is an excellent and conscientious worker. Shows 100 percent in her accuracy in dispensing patient's medication. Often, Mrs. W is assisted by other nursing staff, very cooperative, even beyond her call of duty, such as transferring Mr. S from the bed to wheelchair and vice-versa. Her willingness and politeness, bed manners are exquisite. An award is highly recommended. Indeed a delightful employee." -- W.S.

"J. from activities came to the 1st floor dining room at lunch time and went to several tables to help residents fill out their menu cards. 'I just had a few extra minutes so I thought I would help those who had a vision problem.' The activities staff has a full schedule. J. went beyond the call of duty." -- E. Z.

"When I am sad and in constant pain, K.sometimes has time to listen to me and to talk to me which makes me feel happier and better. She really cares." -- U.H.

"A. was helping E.'s regular CNA to get him out of bed after his nap and into the wheelchair. She spoke to E. in a very encouraging and positive way. He doesn't communicated very well anymore, but he looked her right in the eye and said, 'You have a a cheerful face.'  It was a delightful moment for me to see how E. responded to her special encouragement." -- N. B.

"I was frustrated trying to hook up a new DVD/VCR machine to the central antenna system. Since we have have no 'cable box' we may no longer be able to record. Mrs. S. consoled me about updated electronic equipment and assured me she would pursue the resources of NLHV to see if there is a solution. Even though a 'non essential' problem, she took pains to understand my frustration and assure me." -- B.W.

"On coming back from the program on May 8, Mr. J. wondered where his room was and Mr. W. in a nice manner said, 'I'll take you there,' and took him directly to his room. It was so nice to see and comforting." -- A.W.

"She is always helpful to get me ready and she waits for me in line. She also takes me to doctor trips." -- M.W.

"He takes care of my breakfast, puts my plate together, cuts what needs to be cut (like pancakes), pours coffee and makes sure I have all the silver. C. makes it easier for me to eat." -- M.W.
